Pastoral Search Team

In late February, Brad Anderson announced his acceptance of a chaplaincy position beginning in August. The Session (Elder Board), in accordance with the PCA Book of Church Order, recommended a Pastoral Search Team to the congregation that was approved by congregational vote on March 26th. The team has been tasked with reviewing and interviewing pastoral candidates with the intent of recommending an appropriate candidate for Lead Pastor of Valley Springs Presbyterian Church. Members and regular attendees of Valley Springs Presbyterian Church are encouraged to submit recommendations for Lead Pastor Candidates via the Recommendation Form

Paul Jelle

Paul is the Elder acting as the chair of the Pastoral Search Team. Paul and his wife Joanne have been members of Valley Springs since 2002, and have served as high school mentors, co-founded and facilitate Heart to Heart, served as a Stephen Minister, helped with SummerFest planning and crafts, as well as facilitated the Mercy and Care Ministry (now the Deacon Board). He has been an Elder since 2014.  Paul has three children and six grandchildren. He is looking forward to faithfully and confidently being able to lead the Pastoral Search Team by God's grace and find the person God has already identified as the next Lead Pastor at Valley Springs.

Bill Boyd

Bill and his wife, Val, have been part of the Valley Springs family for seven years. Originally from Arizona, they moved to Northern California in 1997. Bill has served as an Elder (currently off Session) and in his Community Group prior to joining the Pastoral Search Team.  Bill has a passion for studying the Word, with a specific interest in the relationship between Old and New Testament. Bill is excited to see God’s leading in the process of finding the next Lead Pastor. He works as an airline pilot, but when he’s not in the air, you can find Bill spending time with his family, preferably in the woods, on the mountain, or on the water.

Sara Hyun

Sara has been at Valley Springs for 14 years with her husband, Peter, and their two children, Anna and Tim. Sara worked in HR prior to stepping into the role of home school teacher. Her HR background and organizational planning experience are a wonderful gift to the church and this Pastoral Search Team. She seeks to utilize that experience in the process to source and select a Lead Pastor alongside the Pastoral Search Team. Sara works diligently behind the scenes at Valley Springs and was instrumental in securing the grant for Brad’s sabbatical in 2021.

Matt says, "God has really blessed my family with our time at Valley Springs”, and looks forward to continuing that journey with the church. In his spare time, Matt enjoys watching movies and reading. He is known in his Community Group as being the resident expert on foreign and niche films.

Betsy Robertus

Betsy and her husband Todd have attended Valley Springs for 27 years and served faithfully in the children’s ministry as well as facilitating a Community Group. Betsy is looking forward to seeing how God works in amazing ways to lead Valley Springs to the man He has prepared for teaching and ministering to the church family and greater community. Betsy works as a bookkeeper and has a wonderful eye for detail and process. Betsy loves to hike when she’s not working or serving the church. She and Todd both grew up with dachshunds. Their first dachshund together was a puppy who attended a Valley Springs picnic in 1997. Their current dachshund is a lively 16-year-old.

Pat Hammer

Pat worked in Higher Education before retiring. She now serves as a co-leader of the Valley Springs Women’s Ministry team and on the Navigation team, helping new attendees find a place to serve and get connected. In her twelve years at Valley Springs, Pat has encouraged and helped others grow in their faith journey. Pat is looking forward to seeing God’s guidance in leading Valley Springs to the candidate He has already chosen. Pat previously served on a pastoral search committee and has years of experience in hiring and interviewing. She seeks to enter this process in prayer, focusing on the scripture's requirements for a Lead pastor as they seek the Lord’s will in this process.
